St Lucy’s School is a special School catering for children who are blind, vision impaired or with other special needs.
The original school was built in the late sixties and served the purpose for which it was built extremely well. Thirty years later, however, with increased student enrolment numbers with a wider range of special needs, larger staff numbers, a different approach to special education and a greater awareness of Occupational Health and Safety.
The aims of the refurbishment were to create additional office space, relocate and increase the size of the staff room, provide safe entry and exit areas, a sick bay, an open play space and a more obvious street presence. With the special needs of the school in mind, particularly those related to vision impairment, safety, colour, colour contrast, light, accessibility, comfort and flexibility were primary considerations. |
