The practice of Architecture requires the subtle interplay of ‘preparation’ and ‘action’. Oftentimes the concept of preparedness and ‘design’ is subjugated to time-tabling to facilitate abstract and inconsequential outcomes. We like to think before we act. Where examination should be sought and an evolutionary process articulating clarity and thinking should be addressed, quite often a cloudy malaise of ‘value management’, technical obfuscation and poor prioritisation of issues ensues.

Design is an absolute, reaching out for fine and logical answers despite the constraints. It is an organic fluid process reaching out for subtle and reposeful outcomes that are timeless.

The opportunity should thereby be to embrace a fluid and open discourse between client and architect and to allow the time for full and proper discussions for far too often, the discussions are too short, the communication too marginal and the result one of misunderstanding. The design process should therefore involve many meetings, many site visits, many drawings & models and a series of refinements in the plan and this should be facilitated with proper time and resources by all.
