Angelo Candalepas was born in Sydney and graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney in 1992. In 1994 he commenced his own practice in architecture after having worked as an apprentice architect under Colin Madigan at (Edwards Madigan Torzillo Briggs) EMTB, the architects of the National Gallery and the High Court of Australia.

In his first year of practice Angelo won an international competition for housing in Pyrmont. The project is the recipient of various awards. Between 1994 and 1999 Angelo won and was shortlisted in numerous international competitions such as the National Museum of Australia Competition, the ACI competition, the College of Fine Arts Competition for the University of NSW and Bathurst Street, Sydney Competition.

In 1999 Angelo established Angelo Candalepas and Associates Pty Limited. Since 1999, the company, under his leadership has won many awards which include awards for 61 York Street Sydney, Pindari, Oxford Street Development, Lamia, 219 Castlereagh Street Sydney, Messy House, Cullen Aalhuizen House, etc. and has also been shortlisted and won projects in limited competitions such as for All Saints Grammar School and the St Basil’s nursing homes. All Saints Grammar School received the Sulman Award for Public Architecture in 2009.

Angelo’s work has been widely published in national and international journals and books and he has written many articles in national architecture journals. The work of the company has been exhibited both internationally (Venice Biennale, New York, Moscow) and locally (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane). The present work of Candalepas Associates includes projects such as religious buildings, schools, large masterplans, multi-unit residential buildings, office buildings, aged care facilities, retail centres, heritage refurbishments, private houses and water-recreation and landscape facilities at Sydney Harbour.

Angelo has taught and lectured at various Universities in Australia including the University of Technology, Sydney, the University of Tasmania, The University of Sydney, The University of New South Wales.
